President Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are meeting with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, a day after they met with Russia’s Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss plans toward ending the war in Ukraine.
\n\nWitkoff and Kushner were greeted by Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Sunday, arriving in Ukraine’s capital by train after flying from Moscow to the Polish border.
\n\n“We are ready for the conversation,” the Ukrainian president said in a post on X after meeting with his top officials.
\n\n“Ukraine has always been and will remain constructive. We are interested in bringing the end of the war closer,” he said, adding that Ukraine’s “proposals are ready.”
\n\nBoth Russia and Ukraine agreed to hold off on aerial attacks on each other’s capitals to enable the visits over the weekend, bringing a brief respite in the cities, though no broader ceasefire is in place.
\n\nThe renewed talks are an apparent attempt to revive Washington’s bid to end the nearly five-year-old conflict after months in which momentum has been stalled by the Iran war.
