\n\nA federal judge ruled today allowing the Pentagon to proceed with firing three journalists at Stars and Stripes, showing skepticism of the journalists' challenge that their First Amendment rights were violated.
\n\nU.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden wrote in a 24-page ruling that he could not rule in favor of publisher Max Lederer, editor in chief Erik Slavin and reporter Lara Korte, who sought to block the Pentagon from firing them while their lawsuit continues through court proceedings.
\n\nSlavin and Korte both participated in interviews for a CBS News segment that aired in July, during which they were asked to speak about the traditional independence of the newspaper, which is partially funded by the Pentagon. Both journalists made comments that they would reject potential censorship by the Pentagon in their roles, if that were to happen.
\n\nThe pair were both dismissed for insubordination over that interview, and Lederer also received a notice of proposed separation after he spoke out about refusing to be the one to deliver Slavin and Korte's terminations.
