Democrats scored wins in Missouri and Maryland over state redistricting plans ahead of the November elections.
\n\nRep. Suhas Subramanyam, D-Va., said yesterday that the FBI and Justice Department monitored phone calls he had with Virginia state Sen. Louise Lucas.
\n\nSubramanyam, a first-term congressman and former member of the Virginia Senate, said in a statement that the two federal agencies recently informed him of the recordings, saying the conversations were monitored as part of a corruption investigation into Lucas.
\n\n“This is deeply concerning,” Subramanyam said in the statement. “Trump’s DOJ has become his own personal law firm, with his former personal attorney carrying out vendettas on Trump’s political enemies.”
\n\nHe alleged that the timing of the wiretap and the investigation “is extremely suspicious,” as it overlapped with the state’s vote on a new Democratic-drawn congressional map and a subsequent court ruling.
\n\nAccording to the documents provided in Subramanyam’s statement, the government conducted surveillance of his conversations with Lucas from March 6 to April 5 and again from April 14 to May 14.
\n\nVirginia voters narrowly approved the new congressional map on April 21 before the state’s Supreme Court blocked it from taking effect in a ruling May 8.
