Trump Says AI Companies Have Agreed to Regulate ThemselvesUS president Donald Trump and the leaders of some of the world’s biggest tech companies have signed a new voluntary agreement on AI safety. Trump called the agreement “morally binding,” and it appeared to have no legal implications. At a White House meeting on September 29, tech leaders including X CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI president Greg Brockman, joined Trump to discuss how the industry should manage the risks of increasingly powerful AI systems. Speaking on the White House driveway flanked by the tech bosses, Trump described the agreement as “almost like a constitution,” while suggesting that much of the oversight could come from the companies “self-policing” themselves. The executives repeatedly pointed to AI’s potential economic, medical and technological benefits, while also acknowledging that its risks are far from solved.
