\n\nSuperior Court Judge William Sullivan went over the jury instructions yesterday with both parties ahead of today’s closing statements.
\n\nThe parties largely agreed on the instructions for first-degree murder, with prosecutors signing off on language that the charges are for “deliberate premeditation and extreme atrocity or cruelty.”
\n\nBut the defense pushed for instructions for involuntary manslaughter as a lesser charge the jury may agree on if it cannot decide on the three murder charges.
\n\nProsecutors objected to the involuntary manslaughter instructions, as well as a defense request to include instructions about a Bowden charge, which lets the jury know the police investigation was not sufficient. The two parties did agree on eliminating references to “voluntary intoxication.”
\n\nThe judge ended court yesterday by asking both parties how long their closing arguments might take.
\n\nReddington told Sullivan, “I’m usually pretty quick. I would say half an hour.”
