Zohran Mamdani tells WIRED there's a "real crisis of faith as to what is real right now." Read our full interview with the New York City mayor.
\n\nif technology was making democracy stronger or weaker.
\n\nYou told me weaker in its current use.
\n\nStill weaker. Why? What stands out to you?
\n\nI have family members sending videos,
\n\nAI videos of me to me thinking that it's real.
\n\nI mean, it's not funny. I have a family member
\n\nwho complimented me on a 45-minute debate
\n\nthat I had with a European member of parliament.
\n\nAnd I watched the video, I was like, This is not me.
\n\nApparently, I did. Apparently, I did well.
\n\nDefeated my European AI counterpart. But no, it wasn't real.
\n\nAnd I think that there is a real crisis of faith
\n\nAnd some of the application of it, it's lighthearted,
\n\nit's funny, but it is quite terrifying to think
\n\nthat in an age of such little faith
\n\nhow even that could be diminished further
\n\nby the application of this technology in that way.
