Since Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez launched the E.U.-backed Spain Audiovisual Hub in March 2021 with a first phase $1.7 billion budget, Spanish governmental figures have used San Sebastián to announce its details (2021), and its impact on Spain’s international shoot scene (2024).

Discussions from 2023 have been led by Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation, headed by Minister Óscar López, which has just announced a deal with the San Sebastián Film Festival to bulwark its industry events. On Sunday, Sept.20 at a morning conference, The New Script of the Audiovisual Industry, Diversity, Investment and Future, organized by the Ministry, looks set to present ongoing initiatives shaping Spain’s film, TV and other AV sectors, including a $521 million investment surge powered by the Ministry’s Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), its sovereign venture capital fund.
