On October 2, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. initiated a recall of berry blends and blueberries sold at Walmart and Trader Joe’s due to potential E. coli contamination, according to an announcement shared by the FDA. This expands on two previous recalls from the company earlier this year. Here’s how to figure out whether your berries were affected—and what to do if they were.
\n\nThe frozen berries were potentially contaminated with E. coli 0145, a strain of bacteria that can cause stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. While most people will recover in a week, the infection can lead to serious complications in certain people, including young kids and older adults.
\n\nThis isn’t the first time these berries have been recalled. Based in Chile, the manufacturer has initiated recalls on July 3 and September 3 of this year — which is why this is considered an expansion on the recall. That means new information has linked these new batches…
