[Mina] These cyborg cockroaches could save your life.
\n\nSmall robots and drones are already employed
\n\nby locating victims in locations that are too hard,
\n\nor dangerous to send humans, like collapsed buildings.
\n\nBut what sets the so-called Paraborg apart
\n\nis that it's also designed to directly administer first aid.
\n\non a giant burrowing cockroach from northern Queensland.
\n\nThey developed two types of Paraborgs.
\n\nand another fitted with an automatic injection mechanism
\n\nTo create the cyborgs, the team anesthetized them
\n\nbefore applying electrodes and microchips.
\n\nBy applying electrical stimuli to electrodes
\n\nembedded in the cockroach's antennae and cerci,
\n\na pair of protruding sensory organs
\n\nresearchers were able to remotely control
\n\nthe bug's direction of travel and walking speed.
\n\nWhile the idea of receiving medical care from a cockroach
\n\nthe new cyborg bug could one day help buy human rescuers
\n\nOh, and when the equipment's removed,
\n\nthe Parabogs go back to living their lives
