Newly released body camera footage shows the moment Pennsylvania police confront Luigi Mangione in a McDonald’s and later find a gun, a magazine and a silencer in his backpack.
\n\nIn the footage, officers approach Mangione and ask him to pull down his face mask.
\n\nAn officer appears to immediately recognize him as the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
\n\n“That’s 100% him,” an officer says, standing outside the Altoona McDonald’s.
\n\n“I told you, man,” another says.
\n\nCNN first reported on the videos and said they were shown during a suppression hearing last year but were not made public until now. NBC News has obtained copies.
\n\nThompson, 50, was shot in the back on Dec. 4, 2024, as he headed to a UnitedHealthcare investor conference in Manhattan. Security video shows Mangione approaching him from behind and opening fire. Thompson was pronounced dead at a hospital.
\n\nMangione was arrested at the McDonald’s five days later, after he was recognized from photos released by police.
\n\nIn the footage, officers say Mangione had checked into a hostel with fake identification and ask him about the name he used.
