The London revival of “Sunday in the Park With George” has been canceled following the exits of stars Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey.
\n\n“The planned 2027 production of ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ at the Barbican will no longer proceed as scheduled,” a rep for producers Empire Street Productions tells Variety. “Empire Street Productions will retain the rights with a view to presenting the production in 2028. Further details will be announced in due course.”
\n\nThe revival of Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical was set to debut at London’s Barbican Centre next summer. The show was first announced in January, offering “Wicked” fans a rare opportunity to see two of the film’s stars perform together live on stage.
\n\nGrande was due to play both Dot and Marie while Bailey was billed to star opposite as George Seurat. The musical takes the name from the French artist’s famous painting, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.”
\n\nThe show first debuted in 1983 off Broafway and the last major revival was on Broadway in 2017, with Annaleigh Ashford and Jake Gyllenhaal in the leading roles.
