\n\nThe Democratic Party that supported Jackson
\n\nwas unique for the time in that white suffrage
\n\nPreviously, only white men of property could vote.
\n\nvarious states dropped that property restriction.
\n\nHowever, as this video notes, Andrew Jackson was a bigot.
\n\nHe continued to buy and sell enslaved people
\n\nof Native peoples from the Southeast
\n\nand even by the standards of the day,
\n\nWe were by far the pro-slavery party
\n\nin both the North and the South prior to the Civil War,
\n\nbut was largely seen as the pro-slavery party.
