Netflix has commissioned a new documentary from Optomen focusing on weddings in Britain’s traveller community.
\n\nProvisionally titled “My Big Day,” the feature-length doc will follow young couples as they prepare for their nuptials, some of which have turned into jaw-dropping spectacles as the pressure of social media encourages the bridge and groom to turn their big day into an unforgettable event.
\n\n“The wedding is not just a celebration, but a rite of passage marking a young woman’s transition into adulthood,” reads the logline. “As social media super-charges the spectacle of the weddings to new heights, this documentary explores the bride and groom’s hopes and dreams, whilst battling prejudices and pressures in the build up to their big day.”
\n\nJonny Ashton (“Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on Tour”) is directing the doc with Tyler Knight (“Ellie Simmonds: Should I Have Children”) producing. Optomen’s co-CEOs Nick Hornby and Tina Flintoff are creative directors on the film.
