I’m asked all too often if investing in a Dyson is worth it. As WIRED’s resident vacuum tester, I’ve tried every recent Dyson vacuum—from the newest, most powerful model to the long-favored V15 Detect—and I have a lot of thoughts on which ones are worth it, and at what price.

\n\nThe Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai came out earlier this year but has already been surpassed as Dyson’s top-of-the-line robot vacuum. But I prefer it to the newer Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV I’m currently testing because it’s usually on sale, and the newest model hasn’t blown me away as a better investment. The Spot+Scrub Ai claims to use artificial intelligence to spot places on your floor it needs to scrub, but I didn’t find it obvious whether that was actually working.
