The president and Xi Jinping held talks at the White House as China’s leader makes his first state visit in over a decade.
\n\nXi wrapped up his remarks at the state dinner, concluding his speech by proposing a toast.
\n\n“Together, let us write a new chapter in our friendly relations. Now I would like to propose a toast to the health of President and Mrs. Trump, to the prosperity and progress of China and the United States, and to the friendship between our two peoples. Cheers,” Xi said.
\n\nXi tonight compared Trump's campaign to "Make America Great Again" to China's own quest for revitalization, calling for the two nations to "move forward side-by-side."
\n\n"President Trump has pledged to make America great again and lead the American people in making significant strides. China is committed to achieving great national rejuvenation, and Chinese modernization has kept breaking new ground," Xi said. "These two goals are both ambitious and can surely be mutually reinforcing."
