Live updates: Republicans release a deluge of ad spending in midterm final stretch

A survey of hundreds of government officials from around the country found that political polarization is spiking at the local level.

The top Republican super PAC involved in Senate races is planning to spend $5 million in South Carolina, a source familiar with the spending confirmed to NBC News.

\n\n

The outlay from the Senate Leadership Fund, which is aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., is the latest sign that the race between GOP Sen. Darline Graham and Democratic pediatrician Annie Andrews is competitive.

\n\n

The last Democrat to represent South Carolina in the Senate was Fritz Hollings, who served from 1966 until 2005.

\n\n

Trump has campaigned for Graham who is running for a full Senate term in the seat that had been held by her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died suddenly in July.
