The Lindsay Clancy murder trial teeters on mistrial as deadlock persisted on the sixth day of deliberations, and a question raised by the jury on Thursday prompted the defense to call for one of the jurors to be dismissed.
\n\nAfter returning from lunch on Wednesday, the jury handed Judge William Sullivan its second deadlock notice alerting the court that, after nearly five days of deliberations, the nine women and three men could not reach a unanimous decision on Clancy’s fate. The first deadlock note came Tuesday morning.
\n\nOn Thursday, the jury submitted a question to Sullivan following their lunch that reconvened the court.
\n\nSullivan did not read the note to the courtroom, but it appears that it may have been regarding reasonable doubt. He instead repeated his instructions on the definition of reasonable doubt.
\n\n“A charge is proved beyond a doubt if, after you’ve compared and considered all of the evidence, you have in your minds an abiding conviction to a moral certainty that the charge is true,” Sullivan said.
\n\nThe jury was sent back for deliberations.
