\n\nWIRED’s Rosie Swash speaks with UK politician Jess Asato about tackling Elon Musk’s xAI after being subject to deepfaking via Grok, xAI’s chatbot. Jess and Rosie also delve into the ‘AI kill switch’ proposal, the specifics of Jess’ court case and the harsh reality of being deepfaked on the internet in 2026.
\n\nI wanted to take you back to the beginning of this year,
\n\nThere was widespread reporting of Grok,
\n\nxAI's chatbot, being used to create sexualized images
\n\nand those images being circulated on X.
\n\nHow aware were you at this point of the phenomenon
\n\nof deepfakes being used in this way?
\n\nAnd actually had been working, you know,
\n\nwith survivors who had experienced deepfakes
\n\nfor quite a number of years, you know,
\n\never since the advent of AI, you know,
\n\nAnd the developing risks of children both
\n\nbeing, you know, put into child sexual abuse material,
\n\nbut also children using nudification tools
\n\non other children, thereby criminalizing themselves
\n\nbecause these tools are so easy to access, often free.
\n\nSo I was already very alive to the huge harms
\n\nbeing created by AI deepfakes of both women and children
