Freddie Jackson, whose smooth vocals swept an entire generation off its feet, died Monday night, his family announced on Instagram. He was 70.
\n\n“Freddie was more than a legendary voice. He was a kind, generous soul who loved his fans, his family, his friends, and his music with everything he had,” his family wrote.
\n\n“For decades he gave us the songs that became the soundtrack to our love stories, our celebrations, and our most treasured memories,” the post went on. “That gift will live on forever.”
\n\nHis hit 1985 single “You Are My Lady” became one of the most recognizable songs at weddings, engagements and any time a romantic mood needed to be set.
\n\n“To everyone who ever sang along, danced, or felt something when Freddie took the stage: thank you. You were family to him, and he carried your love with him always,” his family said on social media.
\n\nIn 2024 the singer announced that he had been diagnosed with kidney disease and planned to partner with the National Kidney Foundation to spread awareness.
\n\nJackson said that after much thought and reflection he was finally able to speak publicly about his deeply personal journey.
