Two people were killed and nine have been hospitalized after police say gunfire erupted at a gathering that may have been a cookout in Trenton, New Jersey, overnight.
\n\nCapt. David Ordille of the Trenton Police Department said the shooting happened at around 12:25 a.m. along the 100 block of Locust Street in Trenton, New Jersey.
\n\nEarly Sunday morning, police had taped off an entrance to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, about two miles away from the shooting, and a vehicle that was parked at an emergency room entrance was seen being towed away.
\n\nOutside the medical center, NBC10’s Katy Zachry spoke to a woman who said her nephew was brought to the hospital after having been shot in the head.
\n\nFamily and friends of victims who have spoken to NBC10 said that before the incident, people had gotten together for a neighborhood gathering and a cookout.
\n\nThen, at some point, the shooting started.
\n\nA woman who told NBC10 she was at the cookout but asked to remain anonymous said about 150 people were at the event when they first heard shots.
\n\nShe said the crowd thought the shooting was over after an initial volley of shots, before it erupted again.
